Country Girls

In farmhouse basements country girls,
the older ones, played dress up.
Fabricating figures from kerosene lamps,
finding hope in Sears Roebuck’s depiction,
the full range of possibility,
size A through G. Doomed to frustration,
a B the most they dare aspire to.
They giggled and snickered,
they dreamed the burning dreams
of young girls rubbed raw from
what they tried to dream.
