2000/stilt

STILTS

The stilt lifts
his spindly red
leg,
raising it back,
as though
shaking the sand
from each step.
They look mis-built,
like the trucks on
big tires for those
events –
I can’t remember
what they are called.
Nor do I want to.
I’m sorry I’ve
ever seen them
on t.v.,
so that they can
insinuate themselves
into my perception
of the stilt.
