What made Emily
stay within the confines of her fence?
Bad reviews – I don’t think so.
A weariness with the world –
maybe.
An inability to find a place
for herself in it, no doubt.

I live as she did,
except I go outside.
And drive around.
Without the genius or live-in help.
And I never wear white.
All right, my life is nothing like hers,
except, perhaps, the way I am
always alone in the house.
