2001/pants

You turn your
pants up crooked
at the cuff.
I could try to
change this
part of you,
but it would
find some other
expression.
Like a dent
in the car,
if it’s not too
bad,
best keep it.
’cause the next
one may be
worse.
Not to be
confused with
“if it ain’t
broke,
don’t fix it.”

I’m not sure
if it’s pessimistic
or the severely
practical view
that comes
with age.
There was another
piece of behavior
I was objecting
to, which you
explained lightly
was an aspect
of your steadfastness,
implying it had
to be kept,
like the baby
and the bath.
