2005/anniversary

Our tenth anniversary
we sit on the couch,
which is still re-located
in the dining room
because of house repairs,
reading.
Colorado Review and
the San Diego Union.
A special bond,
I think, our reading
but you say everyone
you’ve been with
was a reader.
Not as easy
for a woman
to find,
though it was a man
who brought a Eudora Welty
collection on a camping
trip that became
my favorite book.
I hand you the
Review to read
a poet we both
know.
That’s how we came
to be here,
not that poet
but the po
business in general.
You were gown and
I was town
and though our tastes
did not agree,
I took comfort
that we could argue
in the same
language.
