2008/balls

Evander bats his jingle balls
across the plank floor.
They sound like baby rattles,
which a baby rarely shakes,
as I recall,
just towering, glowering adults
shaking things in the infant’s face.
Babies must be mildly amused at best,
as the cat seems to be,
forgetting his own game
and staring out the door.
