2001/glamorous

I liked the movies best
where the women wore
glamorous dresses
that swished about
when they danced.
Men courting them
by tap dancing
on the tables.
I never saw anyone
do that,
but knew someone
who said her mother
did it,
when she got drunk.
It shamed her,
and made her recede
from her life
like a cornered
animal.
I always dreamed
that the dancing
and the dresses
might yet come.
But she never
did.
