Scrambled eggs for breakfast,
you catch up on the week’s funnies
while you wait for the Sunday paper
to arrive.
Our first morning since the time change,
we’re up early enough to inspire optimism,
this nippy morning, a week and a half
since it was ninety nine degrees.
I need more transition.
Not just for the body,
but for the mind to unpack
it’s winter clothes. I sip chai,
the windows begin to warm,
the day before Halloween.
