Sun is out – grass is green
Cumulus clouds hang low
in the Southern California sky.
Sun bright, grass green,
after the rain
bright red cars gleam,
silver ones pass me on the freeway
with names like Intrepid.
Indeed.
The other day he referred to me
as diffident,
I told him that now
I’d just have to look it up.
He said he did too,
when someone used it about him.
Is that our problem,
that we are the same words,
vying for a slot
in the dictionary?
We talk of being partners
not competitors.
I think couples are always
talking of things like that.
Bright red, silver,
streaming, gleaming,
diffident, intrepid.
